Veterans Day 2016

On November 11, our country observes Veterans Day.

The national holiday originated as Armistice Day to honor veterans and commemorate the end of World War I. In 1954, President Eisenhower and congress changed the name to Veterans Day to recognize and pay tribute to all American veterans who served their country.

The observance of Veterans Day not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus our attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

This week, Totino-Grace students and staff participated in a Veterans Day convocation. Choir students sang America the Beautiful and Mr. Phil Trovato shared historical and relevant information about the holiday and our veterans. Student council members joined Mr. Trovato with an invitation for all students and staff members to take time on November 11 to recognize, thank, and pray for all American veterans and reflect on the gifts their service has provided each one of us.

Visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website for a history of Veterans Day.

Totino-Grace Engineering Institute Seeking New Mentors

The Totino-Grace Engineering Institute is one of Totino-Grace's newest academic programs that began in the fall of 2013. The Institute is designed to meet the needs of students with interest and aptitude for science, technology, math and their application to fields of engineering.

In June, the 44 members of the first cohort from the class of 2016 graduated. This year there are 61 seniors in their third and final year of the Engineering Institute working on their capstone projects. A group of 61 juniors are entering their second year and the newest group of 77 sophomores began their first semester of the program this fall.

An important part of our E3 Institute, and the students' engineering experience, is connecting each of our students with their own mentor in the engineering field. Our hope is that through occasional communication and interaction and by sharing professional engineering experience and wisdom we can help expose our students to engineering realities beyond the classroom.

We are now seeking new mentors for the 77 members of our sophomore cohort.

If you are in the engineering field or know someone who is, please review the details to becoming an Engineering Institute Mentor. We invite you to respond using the form below and forward this email to friends, family members or other connections who might find this opportunity interesting.

If you have any questions regarding the Engineering Institute Mentor Program, please contact Engineering Institute Co-Director Dan Vandermyde at or 763-571-9116 ext. 769.

Wannamoisett Country Club is a spectacular course and it was a lot fun to play. The course was built over 100 years ago and has hosted several big golf tournaments, including the 41st Junior PGA Championship.
